Middle School Academics

Arthurs Middle School provides a unique schedule with exemplifies a middle school philosophy and understanding of adolescent development.  The curriculum focuses on the four core subjects of English language arts, math, science, and social studies.  In addition, over forty elective courses provide student choice and exploration as well as opportunity for acceleration and intervention. Students can participate in courses, such as award winning band, Spanish, Read 180, graphic design, and robotics.

In 2012 and 2016, Arthurs Middle School received the Michigan Schools to Watch Award which identifies and recognizes middle schools meeting three criteria for high performance:

  1. Academically Excellent - challenging all students to use their minds well
  2. Developmentally Responsibility - sentsitive to the unique developmental changes of early adolescence
  3. Social Equity - democratic and fair, providing every student with high quality teachers, resources, and support

Many additional opportunities enrich the school experience.  The One School, One Book program has created building-wide dialogue across acclaimed texts, such as The One and Only Ivan and The Running Dream. The Where Everybody Belongs (WEB), an orientation and transition program, welcomes 6th graders and makes them feel comfortable throughout their first year in middle school. Each spring, approximately 70% of eighth grade students travel to Washington, D.C. to learn about our nation's capitol and visit historic landmarks. Students can choose from a variety clubs and twelve sports.
